Officers responded to the store after receiving a report of shoplifting and spotted the suspects in the rear of the plaza running toward a wooded area, Howell police said.
A foot pursuit ensued, and officers apprehended a 25-year-old Manhattan resident and a 21-year-old Bronx resident, whose names were not disclosed by police, law enforcement said.
The two suspects attempted to steal more than $6,300 in merchandise from the store, police said. The merchandise was recovered, police said.
The duo was charged with shoplifting and resisting arrest and had outstanding warrants, police said. They were lodged in Monmouth County Jail, police said.
