Amazon continues to expand its grocery delivery services through a new partnership with California chain FoodMaxx, expansions of its partnerships with Save Mart and Lucky Supermarkets, and a new deal with startup Jüsto in Mexico to make grocery delivery available in that country.
Amazon Adds Grocery Delivery South of the Border
Amazon customers in Mexico will soon be able to purchase everything from fresh produce to meat and fish online through a new partnership with grocery delivery platform Jüsto, multiple sources report. Orders will be placed on Amazon.com and delivery will be handled by Jüsto, a startup founded in 2019.
“Jüsto is going to be Amazon’s produce and grocery proposal in Mexico,” said Ricardo Weder, Founder and CEO of Jüsto in an interview with Bloomberg. “It’s one of the few times where Amazon has left all of the client’s experience to a third party, so we’re very excited.”
Weder added that just 3% of the population in Mexico currently buys groceries online, so “the growth opportunity is immense.”
Save Mart Companies Expands Amazon Partnership
Back in the States, Amazon is continuing to build out its delivery offering for local grocery chains as well. The online retailer will now offer same-day grocery delivery from select FoodMaxx locations in Central and Northern California, including stores in Bakersfield, Hayward, Sacramento, San Jose. and Turlock.
Additionally, Amazon has added three new locations to its delivery service arrangement with Save Mart, in Auburn, Bakersfield and Chico, Calif., as well four additional Lucky Supermarkets stores in Foster City, Hollister, Napa and Oakley, Calif. All three grocery chains are part of The Save Mart Companies group.
“We’re excited to expand our Amazon partnership to our FoodMaxx banner, allowing shoppers to gain access to exceptional quality fresh and local produce, meat and seafood, all at low prices shoppers need now more than ever,” said Tamara Pattison, Chief Digital Officer at The Save Mart Companies in a statement. “We see this expansion as part of our continued commitment to providing shoppers with the most convenient way to shop our stores each and every day.”
Customers looking for grocery delivery can visit each chain’s online Amazon storefront to place their orders. Prime members can get additional savings by signing up for a monthly ($9.99) or annual ($99.99) grocery delivery subscription, which offers unlimited grocery delivery on orders over $35 across Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market and other local grocery and specialty retailers.
“FoodMaxx shares in our goal to offer tremendous price, selection and convenience to grocery shoppers, so we’re thrilled to be able to provide fast delivery from Amazon to FoodMaxx customers throughout California,” said Christian Seitel, Head of U.S. Grocery Partnerships at Amazon in a statement. “We work with more than 20 grocery and specialty retailers globally to meet the needs of a broad range of customers and shoppers, and it’s through retailers like FoodMaxx that we’re able to expand our grocery offering and deliver items from beloved neighborhood brands like FoodMaxx to price-conscious shoppers looking for the utmost value.”
