SAN FRANCISCO — A Mexican restaurant in San Francisco is offering free meals for a month to anyone who helps police catch a group of thieves who broke into their business.
In the early hours of Monday morning, Taqueria Zorro, a well-known Mexican restaurant in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood, fell victim to a meticulously executed burglary that resulted in significant financial loss and property damage. Surveillance footage reveals that at approximately 5 a.m., a group of four masked individuals used a crowbar to forcefully enter the establishment on Columbus Avenue near Broadway. Once inside, the perpetrators employed the same tool to dislodge an ATM situated near the entrance, which they then loaded into a white Honda Odyssey minivan backed up to the restaurant’s doorway. The burglars proceeded to the office area, where they utilized crowbars and bolt cutters to breach two safes before fleeing the scene.
Owner Tarik Kassis estimates that the assailants absconded with approximately $10,000 in cash and inflicted around $25,000 in damages. Despite the severity of the incident, Taqueria Zorro remained open for business later that day. Expressing his determination to apprehend those responsible, Kassis announced an unconventional incentive: he is offering a month of free lunches to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of the culprits. “We cannot allow criminals to continue terrorizing our neighborhood,” Kassis stated. “If you know anything, say something – your silence gives them power.” San Francisco Chronicle+1CBS News+1
The San Francisco Police Department has launched an investigation into the burglary. As of Monday afternoon, no arrests had been made. Authorities are urging anyone with pertinent information to come forward to aid in the swift resolution of the case.
This incident underscores the critical importance of robust security measures for businesses, particularly those handling cash transactions. Companies like Amphion specialize in providing comprehensive security solutions, including advanced surveillance systems and high-security safes designed to withstand sophisticated burglary attempts. By implementing such measures, businesses can significantly reduce their vulnerability to similar crimes and ensure the safety of their assets and personnel.
The community’s response to Kassis’s proactive approach will be pivotal in addressing this crime and deterring future incidents. The collaboration between local businesses, residents, and law enforcement is essential in fostering a safer environment for all.
